These books are designed for both the beginner and those that have been studying wine already. Choose books that agree with your personal reading style. The best reference books are the most current edition . While there are many in-depth and excellent sources for studying, these are the ones I found most generally liked and easily used by past students. (Many of the books listed in the bibliography below, but not here in the recommended list, are more intense for the well-advanced wine student, or specific to a certain theme.) It is always best to buy or borrow at least TWO reference books to get a broader view of wine studies. These are highly recommended: McCarty, Ed and Ewing-Mulligan, Mary. Wine for Dummies . New Jersey : Wiley Publishing, 2003. Herbst, Ron and Herbst, Sharon Tyler. The New Wine Lover's Companion . New York : Barron's, 2003. MacNeil, Karen. The Wine Bible . New York : Workman Publishing Company, 2001. Frost, Doug. On Wine. New York : Rizzoli International Publications, Inc., 2001. Seldon, Philip. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wine. Indiana : Alpha Books, 2000. Julyan, Brian. Sales and Service for the Wine Professional. New York : Cassell Publishing, 1990. Bibliography/References: This class is the compilation of many years of studying from great books, like those listed below, and through classes held by true wine experts who shared their knowledge and their passion for wine. There is not enough gratitude for all of those who have helped guide me and teach me. My special thanks goes to the Court of Master Sommeliers, who more than anything, gave me the passion to learn more about wine and to turn around and make it accessible and fun for others who enjoy learning.
